Accessibility statement
This accessibility statement applies to the DfE education record app.
This app is run by the Department for Education. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this app. For example, that means you should be able to:
- use your chosen system accessibility setting such as high contrast modes and increased text size
- zoom in up to 200% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate the app using speech recognition software
- listen to the app using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We've also made the app text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet (opens in new tab) has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible this app is
We know some parts of the Apple iOS app are not fully accessible:
- enabling large text or bold text is not possible
- VoiceOver screen reader is unable to recognise different heading types or some button/input fields context
- some links are below the recommended WCAG 2.2, level AA standard colour contrast
- a change of page after successful scanning of the QR code isn't identified clearly enough for screen readers
- checkboxes on the app aren't labelled clearly for screen readers
- screen readers can't clearly identify all text field inputs
We know some parts of the Android app are not fully accessible:
- enabling bold text or scaling a text element is not possible
- TalkBack screen reader is unable to recognise different heading types or some button/input fields context
- a change of page after successful scanning of the QR code isn't identified clearly enough for screen readers
- checkboxes on the app aren't labelled clearly for screen readers
- screen readers can't clearly identify all text field inputs
